LASA Athletes and their Coaches
The LASA Swim and Dive Team is almost entirely run by the student Leadership, including our Captains who write sets and plan practices. This is Coach Parks' 6th season and Coach Zamora's first season managing the team and coordinating all the combined efforts of so much student and parent-driven contribution to the Aquarap success.
Members of the Diving Team join in Land Practice / Weigh Room; however, their diving training is done via the high school program at the University of Texas. LASA Divers work with Coach Beran at UT. You can find the steps to join the UT Diving program here:
Coach Parks has been teaching languages since he graduated from SMU and returned from studies in Berlin in 2006. His passion for German language, literature, and culture grew out of his time spent with his grandmother, who was born in Berlin in 1942. Outside of teaching English, German, and Italian before coming to LASA, he also took classes to improve his Spanish and Dutch, along with some beginner courses in Mandarin Chinese and French. Languages have been a lifelong passion of his since he first learned German nursery rhymes from his Oma.
Alongside his fascination with languages and cultures, he grew up being very active in athletics, including Swim, Track and Field, and Football until final landing in the world of marching band as a member of the Drumline and Percussion Ensemble. He was Drum Major for 2 years both at Marble Falls H.S. and of the Mustang Band at SMU. He has always loved team sports and has been a member of a championship masters rowing team with the Texas Rowing Center since 2016. He enjoys reading and writing in his free time. Coach Zamora is the Animation and Ezine teacher at LASA. She started at LASA in 2022 and haa been teaching since 2014. Coach graduated with a BFA in Media Arts & Animation and loves film, animations and graphic novels. She is from San Juan, a city in south Texas but has been in Austin since 2008. She spends her free time with her daughter watching Films or doing something active.
